I have been spending my time in my foster parents' bathroom. It is a good size...the shower is my bed. And since I make a little mess with my tube feeding, my foster mom says it makes for easy clean-up!

Anyways, today I noticed that the bathroom door was slightly ajar. I usually see some other cats out there...but today, no one was there. It was a free freedom! I quickly ran under the bed, where it always looks so soft and warm. There are blankets under there and I think the other cats sleep there sometimes. I was a little bit nervous, but I really like being those other cats I see! I just want to be like them! My foster mommy found me there. She laughed because she said I looked cute under there. And then she just let me be. I am getting pretty good at eating on my own...I am trying! Mom says I will be able to stay out all the time, if I can start eating all by that is my goal! I sure am enjoying some of my time as an escape artist!

Looking Good!

Today, my buddy Leigh came over to check on me. She was the kind volunteer who brought me from the vet to my new foster home--IN THE SNOW! She had a kitty who had a feeding tube so she has lots of experience with this kind of thing. Leigh helped my foster mommy to take off my old bandages and give me fresh ones. Things looked really good at my incision, so my foster mommy was really happy about that. I really enjoyed having the bandages off for awhile...I got a nice neck rub and it felt oh-so-good! And I was really good when they put the fresh bandages on me again. I am sure just an easy going and sweet boy! My foster mommy just thinks the world of me!

This afternoon when my foster mommy was tube feeding me, I scooted over to her and put my head on her leg. I was purring...what a nice moment that was...

Good Night!

I just wanted to wish all of my loyal fans a good night. I have decided that one of my favorite places to sit is in the sink, right next to the radio. Tonight I listened to a football game! I have been taking my food & shots like a champ. I don't like it, but I know that it will help me feel better...Anyways, good night to all of you out there.

Hi everyone! My foster mommy just wanted to let you all know that we are raising funds to help cover my costs. So here is the chip-in page where you can send in donations, if you'd like! My last vet visit cost a little over $1,500.

A Little Bit About Myself

Welcome to my little piece of the web! Let me introduce myself...My name is Darren. I am a handsome 5 year old Russian Blue mix. A few months ago, my loving mom passed away. She had always taken such good care of me and my sister Margo. I was scared and lonely and nervous. Who would come for me?

Many cats like me end up in the shelter. Luckily, my mom's daughter found a rescue who would take me & my sister. I spent two months in foster car until I became sick. I lost my appetite, lost weight, and became very lethargic. Over this period of time, I lost too much weight too quickly and developed "fatty liver" disease (who knew losing weight would do that?).

So I spent about 2 weeks at the vet's hospital where I was poked and prodded. Eventually I got a nasal drip to help me get enough nutrients, since I was no longer eating. And once I was strong enough, I got a feeding tube. While my prognosis is still uncertain, I am feeling a lot better. And the vet decided I could go home today!

When I finally got out of the hospital, it was snowing! How long had I been in there?!? I rode in the car for an hour through the cold and snow...and finally arrived in my new home. My new foster mom tried to explain it all to me. I am here because they are going to be able to tube feed me about 6 times a day every 2-3 hours. My sister isn't here...and that really makes me scared. But everyone here seems nice. And my new foster mom said I can come out and meet her kitty family as soon as I am done with my meds. In the meantime, I have a great warm room where I am getting lots of love and food, of course. I also have a radio all to myself. Mom wanted me to listen to Christmas music, but I think it is too I get to listen to pop instead. And I even ate 5 moist treats tonight!

I hope you'll come back soon to read more about me on my road to recovery!
